El Camino de Santiago - Page 2

Cheryl, Geoff, Brenda - Cheryl and Brenda are Alabama girls who suffered my consistent sterotyping of the rural South.

Brenda:  Did you hear Huntsville (Alabama) was in the news today?

PC:  What, another Klan rally?

Brenda:  Just you huuuush!

Gerhard and Ulrihe-- finally people who appreciate Faure's Requiem.

One of the more colorful cafes (Brenda and Cheryl).  The Cowboy Cafe makes me long for Texas

Pete and his hound Dexter - from Ireland.  Pete funded his Pilgrimage by playing traditional Irish tunes on the fiddle.

Rural Spanish town "traffic jam" - sheep going for a haircut.

Another stretch of long road in Spain.

Above:  More rugged scenery - we actually have to walk over this.

Right:  Rita and Erik Ronning - Ponferreda.  The castle was built by the Templar Knights - who were charged with protecting the pilgrims.

The long and winding road - near O Cebreiro

Brenda - with landscape during one of our days with many inclines.  "I like hills.  Hills are good for me."  Or the alternative mantra - "This sucks, I want to go home."

Another incline!!!

I used the excuse of taking this picture just to get my backpack off and take a break.

Above:  The courtyard of the monastery at Samos.  We got in to see it despite "Brother Grumpy."

Right:  Imposing view of pilgrim statue - just outside O Cebreiro.

Mural at the Monastery at Samos

Early morning respite - breakfast on the Camino.

Brenda with Jeanette.  Jeanette is our Dutch "Meity" - who is terrific at reading people.   Group shot in front of the Cathedral

The destination - The Cathedral at Santiago.  Supposedly, the bones of St. James are inside - though no one is quite sure.
